Breaking down books in terms of color as an indexing method, begged for the arena of the library, the most comprehensive care-taker of “history”. Conversation at Lockwood is motivated by the idea of conversations “in history” rather then “with history”. The gradation from white/light to black/dark seemed to provide enough objectivity to the process to allow play between titles to occur, while still reflecting a reliance on structure. This work casts texts into unexpected relationships, colour as an indexing method creates unusual interactions between texts. Green books come in all kinds of topics.
The intersections between a text (the object), a personal history, a cultural history and our need to see ourselves in what we read has led to other projects where I try and connect myth and desire with an appropriate text or impulse. Whether it is a flying books or a smokable text, the connection we have with stories is more then intellectual.
