The refrigeration works use the creation of a naturally occurring process (water turning to ice) recreated through industrial means. These pieces change, distort, deteriorate and grow back again, all the while being supported by a noisy, industrial codependency of technology and energy. Like with the other works there is a conflict or dichotomy created between strength and fragility, between the fixed and the transitory. These works are about the fluidity of moments and the inevitability of decay.
With the film works it is important for me to show the process that creates the illusion of a moving image. This for me points to the unseen structures (histories) that enable us to have conviction in the present. The projected image becomes a by-product of the support network, and like any moment or opinion it is reliant on its circumstance and time. Again these (net)works are fragile constructs on the verge of collapse.
These small black & white drawings (each 4"x 5") depict a variety of body types coupled with baby birdheads. They hang up-side down, straining towards an abstract object just beyond their reach, reflecting an instinctive need to consume, push forward and grow, the foundation of our western free market system.
