Arguments and Conversations
Although my book configurations are sculptural, I do see the creation of surface imagery closely resembling painting in a way. The most recent books towers (Conversations) continue to push the limitations of the material. They are also becoming more concerned with the creation of well-defined surface images. With the earlier works, Arguments, an obsessive need to order books by subject was the stacking method, making connections, historical and otherwise, across the structure surface. Now the book colours are being used as pixels to create an over-all image effect. Any intriguing connections between books are left to chance (a detective novel and a university text on accounting could share a cover color, say blue, and find themselves side by side).
